Flying Monkeys.

With a high class group of riders rolling out of the start village today (down town Keighley) it was going to be a fast mornings Caferace.

These Riders including Tour de France rider Gez Hunt Cervelo Test team hoping to pick up some tips from the Caferacers ,Super Sid and Tom Barras with over 1000 wins between them ,Yanto Barker and of course Oxenhope rider James Sargent.All having travelled up especially to compete in todays Caferace the highlight of their season and also taking in some chipper race the following day the UK National Champs or something. Anyway back to the important Stuff.

The action never really got going until the climb before the Duck Pond with Giz Hunt forcing the pace pressing hard on the pedals to pull off all the Chasing riders one by one he was soon joined by Giles the only rider that he didn't pull off, but it wasn't long before he was soon back in the group as most riders didn't want him pulling off on the front again with his hard on the pedal action.

Up the hill past the angel a small group managed to get it up, and pull off the front, but by the finishing straight they were all back together and a mad dash for the finish was on the table.

Yanto went too early prematurely sitting up allowing a Flying James Rushton to Pull Himself off the front to take his first ever CafeRace win.

Saturday morning saw the group meet in Keighley

under a rainy and grey sky, with a poor turnout from the fair weather riders. I rode over from Ilkley with Billy from

Dirtwheels questioning whether it would be a good idea or not – but wasn’t too

cold once on the move.
We rode into Skipton with the usual anticipation of what might lay ahead. I found

myself at the front riding through Skipton. Joel from Chevin rode at a strong pace

up the hill, so I decided

to sit on his wheel see if the legs were going to coope

rate.

As we rode over the by

pass roundabout I looked around to see there was 4 of us in the clear, a lad in

black kit was hammering it and it was a little keen for my liking so sat in a bit, after getting shouted at I went to the

front and I slowed it up a little allowing others to get back on the group.

After a bit of swapping around, riders doing turns to keep the

pace up we cornered slowly on the slippery tarmac past the

duck pond, with Lloyd going some strong turns. The group

settled down as it does over the few bumps and along to the sprint section. I sat on

Lloyd and Richard as it seemed like a good plan. I noticed Richard looking around a bit

saying “who is this bugger sat on”. I kept an eye right to spot any attackers, and just as i

relaxed Mick Day came through with a real turn of

speed, luckily someone shouted – i was in the right gear so jumped after him, no

one followed and i put my head down and managed t

o get past Mick before the sign. Lloyd was 3rd.

The Hottest day this year saw a huge group roll out of Keighley today swelled but a big turn out from Leeds with there leader Mark (look how strong I am Scotts brother) Twaites.

The first to attack up the hill out of Skipton was Mark (look how strong I am Scotts brother) Twaites and got a nice cuddly gap at the top he was soon joined by Mad Seth. but Richard and Matt were having on of it bringing them back in to the dwindling bunch.

Then up the climb before the Duck pond he was at it again guess who? yep it was Mark (look how strong I am Scotts brother) Twaites and manager to shrink the bunch more so.

Up the hill past the Angel 12 year old Joe Mosses had a wonderful attack and looked like he may of made the move of the day until. yep until Mark (look how strong I am Scott brother) Twaites chased him down.

Then at Flasby more Mad Seth was at it again but this time going solo but was chased down by local boy la Joel.

Yet again the group settled down for a sprint.

Tom Sids lad Barras took the win with a little help from a big red truck that Jonny Ratcliffe ordered from www.hireabigredtrucksonoonecancomeroundyou.com. Richard clawed is way into 2nd follow by local Internet tycoon Jonny Ratboy Rattcliffe.

Up the Hill Out of Skipton the new lad "Borat"aka Danny Walmsely set such mind blowing tempo that Old Tom Garwell lost his Bottle and disappeared off the back.

A few digs here and there but Borat brought them all back.

Borat was definitely on for the win until he had an unlucky mechanical at Flasby.

The group was just about to settle down for a sprint but Matt had a different idea attacking after Falsby going clear with the Jolly green giant aka Ady Rudd.

Dillon then got on the front and narrowed the gap with his awesome turn of speed.

Matt stayed clear to take the win showing he is fully recovered form his recent illness.

Then came Richard and Jough just catching a fading JGG Ady Rudd on the line.

A massive group left a windy Keighley this morning.

No really major Attacks today the group just split in the cross winds.

As the group rounded the Duck Pond Mother duck and her four duckings decided to try cross the road causing Shack to bunny hope them. Luckily no duck were hurt

Richard ended up leading out in a howling tail wind so none of the upstart Kids from Glendene could get round anyone on there kids gears in the 38 mph sprint finish

As the sun glinted off bright white kits and training camp tans were displayed like medals, the faint rumble of carbon rims hummed as almost 50 rolled out of Keighley.

A cagey affair out of Skipton as none seemed willing to attack the largest bunch of the year. The duck pond passed and still the pace was modest. Eager to stretch things a little, the brilliant Tom Garwell lit things up with a surge up the Angel hill opening a small gap, brought back by the rarely seen lesser spotted Seth. Dirt Rider Billy then set tempo towards Flasby. Keen to show off the ever increasing array of day glow stickers adorning the back of his mucky bike, the lively Chris Young made a couple of attempts to ride away. As the bunch pegged him back even Bruce was spotted testing his legs off the front. The pretenders gathering down the final hill, Scott Thwaites decided to make everyone look silly and ride off the front Ekimov style.....alas stirling work by Big Australian John and Bruce closed the gap. Scott leading things out, Big John started the sprint followed by Mick Day. Enter the man, Tom Garwell. Springing like a salmon (on a bike) off Mick's wheel, Garwell gritted his teeth and tore towards the line, hearts sinking at such a breathtaking turn of pace. The classy Garwell took his maiden victory with dignity and grace (he honestly didn't embarras himself by whooping and hollering like an American and definately didn't turn round and call Mick an old

gimmer)

A small but elite Group rolled out of Keighley today ready to do battle for the double bank holiday Monday points

Richard had an early attack but was brought back in to the fold but not before dispensing of Robert Watson first due to the high pace set by the chasing pack

It all came down to an epic sprint

Tom Moses loses the lead to Cafe Racing Great Richard.

Tom just didn't have it today he had numerous attempts to split the bunch but just dint have he must of left it all on the road Friday.

In the end it came do to a mass scramble to the finish with Richard taking the win from Shack with New Boy (Shacks lead out man) Stephen Henson taking 3rd thats a 2nd and 3rd for ellis briggs boys.

Today the break went early with Tom Moses taking Richard, Pitbull and Tim Bladwin clear

first to go was Pitbull then Tim. Tim pretending to have a mechanical on the angel when the Bunch roared passed.

That left 2 away. Richard managed to get passed Tom to take the double points while Giles mopped up the remaining points leading the Bunch in.

Tom takes over the lead after a hard race today.

Which was won by Mark (Scotts brother) Twiates who took flight before the Duck pond pulling him and Chris Wade clear. Chris did the Lions share of the work and the duo stayed Clear to Th finish Mark only taking the front on the last kilometer. and didnt have anything left in his legs to get him to the Cafe.

The remaining sprint was won by Tom Moses grabbing himself a cheeky point to take the overall.

Lewis Craven takes the win for the first time

A surprise win today By Lewis craven of Team Wheelbase. Tom moses pulled Lewis over the angel and Lewis Thwaites jump over the top of him to stay clear until the line.

Leaving the rest of the Caferacers to scramble for the lower places. Veteran rider Chris Young tock second place with Pitbull snapping at his heels.

Tom Mosses should he pedigree by winning the first Caferace of the year. Taking it from Mick Day the two went clear over the top of the Angel and stayed away on a very slippy run in. Tom had the advantage over Mick in the Sprint as Tom had a 46 12 on his cross bike, and Mick had a 53 11 on his BMX.

We had a new Rider out today (pictured right)who made it to the Finish in the group we would like to welcome the Green Cross Code man from Otley.

Up the hill out of Skipton some one said to me "The tension builds as we climb the Col de Skipton in the block head wind but some wally will attack soon"

Up passed up the Pub Richard attacked going clear Matt did his usual stint on the front Keeping Richard at a safe distance a few guys tried to bridge the gap but didn't make contact Joel jumped at the right time catching Richard and they moved clear.

The group rode a steady tempo no one really keen to press on in to the head wind.

At the Duckpond Richard and Joel had moved clear but Joel dropped his purse on the climb up passed the Angel.
The biggest group ever came over the top of the Angel and settled for a sprint

Richard used all his timetriling skills to stayed away and take the win Giles took the sprint from Mick Day.

SUPER SID SHOWS HIS CLASS

Yet again it was another huge field for this mornings café racing with the riders basking in the late summer drizzle.

It was left down to Chris Rhodes to kick of events with a stinging attack up the heifer climb, but alas his attempts came to nothing as the field recognised his class and brought him back into the fold. Next to try was last weeks victor Tim Baldwin, who was full of confidence after last weeks epic ride, but super café Richard (I’m not having that) Harrison jumped across to make what looked like a formidable duo in the lead. Not to be outdone Joel Davidson jumped across, closely followed by young Tom Moses & John Flanagan but with Matt Denby riding tempo on the front this select group found it difficult to break the elastic of the fast moving bunch. The field came together at the bottom of the infamous Angel climb & stayed this way for run into the finish. Shak decided to lead out affairs, closely followed by Jough, Jough went for an early one with the Wiley fox sid on his wheel, then Sid put in a unbeatable burst on the line with Murgy unable to pass in 2nd & Joel closely following in 3^rd

Giles take the sprint from under some classy Noses

A huge group rolled out from St Annes this fine bright Saturday morning you could feel the tension in the air

All together as they left Skipton but a nice tempo on the front and the peloton soon started to thin out.

The First attack came from one of Chris Young's development riders but he was soon back in the group

Then came a surprise attack from JDs cycles team leader Reg this put the willies up Yanto Barker, Lecol Colnago who set off in pursuit of Reg, Yanto soon made contact with Reg but "didnt do many taps" said a disappointed Reg at the Finish, maybe the awesome power of Reg just overwhelmed the Visitor or may the perhaps prestige of the race he was in just got to him.

The main Group were riding well in pursuit of the escapees. Toms mate Gez Hunt ,Cervelo Test Team did a few turns but just spent most of the time moving up and trying to look cool.

By the time we reached the duckpond both were back in the group the pace had slowed slightly but the peloton was down to roughly 15 riders all waiting to see who would make the next move.

They didn't have to wait long with Dave Mann attacking over the climb of the Angel (who had come over to the UK from New Zealand just to sample the delights of Caferacing) Tom Mosses (National Junior Cyclo Cross Champ) saw the danger and followed along with Toms mate Gez Hunt, Cervelo Test Team but once again the frantic speed of pursuing group brought them back.

So the 15 or so Rides Settled down for the Sprint Richard Harrison (caferacer world champ) opted to lead out. The sprint was won by Giles from Yanto and Darran.

All together up out of Skipton even Walshy and boogie Bolton made it up.
and it stayed like to the climb bottom of the Angel due to some good tempo riding from Chris and Joel. On the climb the group was split down to a manageable size by some a strong turn By Jough.

Tom Moses had a few little attacks on the way in but was brought back in to the fold by Colon and Richard. This is where Stuart made his move going clear. with ever one looking at each other Stuarts gap grew and he stayed away to Take his First Caferacing win.

This left the rest to fight it out for the lower places. Flanny went first thinking he and second place in the bag. until Tom Mosses lead out followed by The New improved Colon,Jough Joel and Shack (was Shack out?) and Richard who didnt bseam up for it today and Mick I think.

Tom soon saw the back Of The New Improved Colon and Jough couldn't make his way round The New Improved Colon.

Matt went clear with Old Jon Garwell up past the Heifer. and got a massive gap very quickly. This was reduced by Rich and Murgy and looked like Matt move was coming back but Joel jumped across swelling the front escapees to three the efforts of Joel and some good team tactics by Zepnat and the trio were soon out of reach.

The same three made it to the finish with non Sprinter taking the win from Matt with Old Boy Jon Garwell taking the last point.

Monkey's Bank Holiday Bonanza

It was Mint ; Tom Moses and the Young ones were out, Big Rich, Teg's, Ben, Day, Go on Gary, Rock Racing's Dave and Fatty (sinbad), Ojo Pitbull

Gary threw in a couple of early ones which came to nothing, An elite group formed over the infamous Angel was caught and by the run in everyone was back together. Tom Moses threw in a long one which Rich chased down followed by Mick and I (monkey). I jumped with about 100 to go and got round Rich and Mick and just did Tom on the line.

Wonderful Watson Takes the Win

Lloyd Kellett Kicked it all off today with a epic Attack on the Skipton climb. The chase was lead by a strong Zepnat Rider Matt Denby. Lloyd was soon back in the bunch but clipped away again with Glendeans Joel but They didn't commit to the break and were court by the top of the angel.

A small group of seven riders made the selection and fomed at the head these were Mick Day, Paul Young, Tom Moses, Lloyd, Joel,Matt, Jough,and pitbull. a few move moves saw riders go clear but they were all brought back by a Matt who looked mint.

It all came down to these riders contesting the Sprint Finish Which was won by Zepnats Jon Watson taking the sprint from Joel and Tom

Wired to Win Surviving the Tour De France

Hello,

As keen cyclists I thought your club members might like to know about a unique event that I am organising.

I recently discovered the IMAX Film Wired to Win Surviving the Tour De France http://www.wiredtowinthemovie.com/home.html and as a cyclist and keen fan of the Tour, I thought it would be great to see this unique film which has never been shown before in the UK.

I am planning a one off private screening on Saturday June 6th 2009, 4.20pm at the IMAX Theatre, National Media Museum Bradford.

I would like to offer your club members, their families and friends the chance of joining me to watch this must see film. This may be the only chance to see The Greatest Race this way.

There are only 250 tickets available and I am giving Yorkshire Cycling Clubs the first opportunity to reserve tickets.

Tickets will be allocated on a first come first served basis and the ticket price will be £20 which is needed to cover the substantial hire costs. If sufficient reservations are received, electronic payment via the website will be required by April 30^th to confirm your ticket. In the unlikely event of insufficient bookings, your payment will be refunded in full.

when where and how Caferacing

Ive had a few emails asking where the ride starts etc. so here's a brief summary

We meet just before 9.30am Saturdays outside St Annes School which is on North Street.

The route is a steady ride up Skipton Road to Skipton. Through Skipton up Grassington Road to Rylstone duck pond we turn left then left at Hetton.

Most of the riders end up at Airton Cafe. which is on the Malham side of Airton.

Just few Results from the Local Heroes this weekend.

Mick Day had a good day on Sunday in the Seacroft wheelers promotion at Selby
Finishing 2nd in a Bunch Sprint. Top Ride old fella

Tom Moses got beat by 8 Juniors to finish 9th at the Candence Junior RR and Paul Young was behind 21 Juniors in the same race

Tim Bladwin finished 14th in the Bill Jinks Road race. Jough and Monkey rode round sat on the back all day and finished in the same position.(on the back)

Me 1st Vet 50, 16th overall and Ben 22nd overall over 450 starters at Winlatter Challenge!

Oh yes and Giles won some obscure Vet's Race somewhere beating a few Old Blokes... :-)

It was nice to see Conan back in the cafe today.

He does'nt look any different (see picture)

He told me that he has been working in a special club as a dancer in Keighley. He also said he finds the job very demanding but is more in touch with his feminine side these day. and hope to come out again very soon.

The ever so likable Giles Pidcock finished 8th in the local road season opener Clayton Velo Spring Classic Which was won by National Road race Champion some guy called Rob.

Giles sporting his new team kit and Vinner bike 9which he has blagged of some poor gullible southern cycle shop) is now set to beat last year result in this weekend Eddie Soens race at Anitree Race coarse Liverpool.
Well at least he wont be out caferacing this weekend.

Cafe Racing starts next Saturday.

In one week time it all starts again.

But who will lift the CafeRacing trophy.

Richard Harrison? hes shown his Early season form with a 6th place in the Bolton By Bowland Time trail.

Murgy? Has been put in the miles in and has been dishing it out on the Buckden runs

Shack? outside must have an outside chance he been going well on the Buckden runs.

Giles? He still has his sprint and has shown his form we a 8th place at Clayton Velo Spring Classic.

Mick Day? Hasn't missed a beat this winter and is a canny rider.

Sid? Who knows what Sid is thinking he could win it hands down if he put his mind to it

Dan Fox? the dark horse

Ever year the competition moves up a notch . and this years going to be a tough one good luck to all.

In search of Eric

It all started with a text Friday "Morecambe & back Sunday , up 4 it" there's only one guy could of sent it. I ignored it then another one "Theres a nice caf @ the end of the stone jetti , fish n chips if its shut ! A pic with ERIC then home ."

So Sunday morning comes around St Anne's 9.00am on a warm overcast day well warmer than it has been.

Not a bad turn out Monkey, Chris Wade, Ben Cook, Keith, Sid and Lloyd, but who would make it?

Bradford to Morecambe is about 64miles which makes it 128miles round trip.

The first casualties were Keith & Sid who just "disappeared in Rathmal"

Then Monkey, Chris ,Lloyd and Ben stopped at Wray Cafe (20miles from Eric) the lure of coffee and cake got the better of them.

This just left Richard Harrison!...... any normal person would of just join them under protest.........................but no not Richard he pressed on making Morecambe in good time having his picture taken With Eric grabbing a bite to eat then set off back on his own.

but upon reaching Skipton he caught Monkey, Chris and Lloyd.

Well Done Richard on a true epic ride.

Coffee is a passion of mine as it is of all pro bike riders. MAGNUS MAXIMUS is the result of many hours of research drinking coffee and eating cakes (Not too many and only in the off season).
